A mobile food testing van for testing of food and beverages was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Rajesh Kumar Bagga on Tuesday.
The van can test nearly all eatables and beverages. Anyone can get their food items checked by paying Rs50. The results would be given within 10 minutes.

On the occassion, Dr Rajesh Garg, District Health Officer, said this is a very good initiative taken by the Department of Food safety and Standards Authority of India. People can get their food and beverages test done very easily. They do not have to go anywhere.
“People are very curious to get their milk or other basic things test done. Now, they can avail this opportunity at their doorsteps,” said Dr Garg.
Jaggery unit sealed
Meanwhile, teams comprised of Food Safety Officers M Rashu Mahajan and Dr Tarun Bansal under supervision of Dr Rajesh Garg, DHO, Ludhiana, inspected a gur manufacturing unit. Jaggery was being prepared from old jaggerymixing with sugar and colour. About six quintals of freshly prepared jaggery, 12 quintals of raw material being used to prepare jaggery and 16 quintals of sugar have been siezed. Five samples have been sent for analysis. The unit has been sealed and stopped for further manufacturing as it was running without FSSAI licence. — TNS
