New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) Condemning the arrest of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami by Mumbai police, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday asked the Maharashtra government 'is democracy not being murdered”.
Addressing a press conference here BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “Today we are raising voice for the rights of all channels, not just one channel. The mother-son mafia government has not only attacked the press
but when the decision is not made in their favour, they do not even leave the Chief Justice.”
He said that on one hand Sonia Gandhi writes articles and says that 'democracy is being killed' and Rahul Gandhi writes and says that he does 'politics of love'.
'Is democracy not being murdered in this case ? Is this the politics of love ?”
Attacking the Congress party, Mr Patra said 'shoulder is provided by the Shiv Sena, but gun, gunpowder and all that belongs to the mother-son duo who are fighting to end democracy in India.'
The BJP spokesperson said, “During the COVID-19 crisis, while we are fighting, we have created a government in Maharashtra that is taking custody of the reports, especially those who have questioned the Maharashtra government during the Corona epidemic.”
In the morning, the Police arrested Mr Goswami for allegedly abetting suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer.
A police official said, a team of Alibaug Police picked up Mr Goswami from his residence.
In 2018, an architect and his mother had committed suicide over alleged non-payment of dues by the Republic TV, the official said. The case had been closed. In May this year, state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had announced that a re-investigation had been ordered on a fresh complaint by Adnya Naik, daughter of the architect Anvay Naik.
Mr Deshmukh said, Adnya alleged that the Alibaug Police had not investigated the case which she claimed drove her father and grandmother to suicide in May 2018.
