Seven booked for siphoning off Rs 2.52 lakh cash from nationalized bank's ATM in Thane

Thane, Nov 2 (UNI) The city police have registered a criminal offence against seven people from Haryana for allegedly hacking the automated teller machine (ATM) of a nationalized bank at Vartak Nagar area of the city and siphoning off Rs 2.52 lakh in cash.

An offence under sections 378, 379, 415, 418, 420, 465, 467, 468, 469, 470 and 471 of Indian Penal Code was registered with the Vartak Nagar police station recently but no arrest has been made so far in this connection, police said on Monday.

The suspects opened a bank account with the Haryana branch of the nationalized bank and then on December 25, 2019, one of the seven withdrew Rs 2.52 lakh from the ATM of the bank's branch in Thane, and later hacked the ATM in order to prevent the cash transactions from reaching the switching centre and carried out illegal transactions through the net banking, police said while quoting from the complaint filed by a bank official.
Thereafter, he transferred the money to others through the net banking and thus cheated the bank.

Police have identified the alleged accused as Imran Abdul Sakur Khan, Mohammad Vazid Sakhbira, Mohammad Irfan Usman, Javed Harun Khan, Mustafil Jamil Khan, Mohammad Ajar Mohammad Tahir and Mohammad Salim Abdul Rashid.
