The Supreme Court will hear on November 6 the petition of Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV, in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly's breach of privilege. Arnab has challenged the show cause notice issued to him by the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly to initiate proceedings on the motion for breach of privilege.

Senior advocate Milind Sathe, appearing for Arnab, argued before the bench of Chief Justice Sharad Arvid Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, and Justice V Ramasubramaniam that his client was asked to appear within 10 minutes.

Mr. Sathe said that the editor-in-chief of Republic TV has been called to the Assembly on November 5. "We have come to know that the Committee of Privileges has been formed now," he said. Notice has been issued by the chairman.

The bench said, "There is nothing wrong in summoning by the assembly, but if the Committee of Privileges takes any action, you can challenge it." The case should be listed on November 6, 2020. Meanwhile, the petitioner is directed to file an affidavit. ''
