Nikita Tomar Murder: Inflammatory WhatsApp messages instigated 'mahapanchayat' violence

The police urged people to distance themselves from anti-social elements sending inflammatory messages and requested for cooperation with the police.

Inflammatory messages on WhatsApp groups led to violence in the 'mahapanchayat' called by the members of 36 communities in Ballabhgarh over the killing of 21-year-old Nikita Tomar, said the Faridabad police today.

Social media platforms are now being strictly monitored by the police which is also preparing a list of anti-social elements responsible for spreading hatred on social networking sites like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

While speaking to the media Assistant Commissioner of Police, Adarshdeep Singh said, "A list is being prepared by the Faridabad Police for identifying the anti-social elements who are spreading such inflammatory messages and soon the strictest action will be taken against them under the law."

Singh also urged people to distance themselves from anti-social elements sending inflammatory messages and requested for cooperation with the police.

Earlier on November 1, police had arrested 32 people after violence had erupted in the 'mahapanchayat' that was called by the members of 36 communities in Ballabhgarh over the killing of 21-year-old Nikita Tomar.

Nikita was allegedly shot dead on October 26 coming out of her college after taking her examination in Faridabad’s Ballabgarh.

The CCTV footage with the police shows two youths coming out of a white car and getting hold of two girls. The visuals show one of the two accused, after a verbal duel, trying to pull the girl inside his vehicle parked near the gate of the college in order to abduct her but as she resists, one of them pulls out a revolver and shoots her dead in broad daylight.

The main accused Tauseef, hailing from Sohna in Gurgaon, and his accomplice Rehan, who is from Nuh, are in police custody.
