CHENNAI: Tripunithura Narayanaiyer Krishnan, popularly known as TN Krishnan, considered one of the violin-trinity along with Lalgudi Jayaraman and MS Gopalakrishnan, passed away at his house in Chennai on Monday. He was 92.
Born on October 6, 1928 in Tripunithura, Kerala, to A Narayana Iyer and Ammini Ammal, Krishnan learned music from his father, was mentored by Alleppy K Parthasarathy and later joined Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. He came to the city in the 1940s.
A recipient of the Padmashri (1973) and the Padma Bhushan (1992), Krishnan was also conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi award (1974) and Sangeetha Kalanidhi (1980).
Classical musician duo Ranjani-Gayathri in a tweet said the legend strode the world of violin and carnatic music like a colossus.
