The event will kick off at 12:00 PM today and the livestream for this will be hosted on the official Micromax website and Flipkart. The Indian smartphone brand is expected to launch two devices in the price range of Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000.
The Micromax IN series India launch will also be streamed live via the brand’s YouTube channel. While the specifications of both handsets are yet to be revealed, it is known that they will be powered by a MediaTek chipset. Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma is promising ‘gaming oriented’ products for consumers.
The “Made in India” phones will go on sale via Flipkart and the brand’s online store. This information comes from the brand itself. The budget phone is expected to feature a MediaTek Helio G35 SoC and the more expensive one is said to pack a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC. If rumours are to be believed, the smartphones will arrive with a 6.5-inch HD+ display.
The more affordable version will have a dual rear camera setup. The expensive version is expected to pack a triple camera, and a 48MP main camera is expected based on the first look that was revealed by Sharma. The new Micromax phones will likely offer a nearly stock Android experience. The devices will exclude any bloatware or ads, as revealed by Sharma.
Micromax will have two phones in the new IN series. The first, which will be the more expensive version, though still priced under Rs 15,000 will likely be powered by the Helio G85 processor. The second and more budget friendly option will run the MediaTek G35 processor. Both phones are expected to sport a big display and the more expensive option will have a 6.5-inch full HD+ screen. A 48MP camera is likely on the cards for the bigger phone. It is not clear if Micromax will introduce four or three cameras at the back. Regarding storage and RAM, the company's teasers have indicated that they will offer a bigger memory. Given that 3GB and 4GB RAM options are now standard in the budget category the same will be expected from Micromax as well.
Micromax is banking on a tug of nationalism to drum up its advertising campaign as it gets ready for launch. But will that be enough to get the consumer? We spoke to analysts who said the anti-Chinese sentiment is a short run game. Micromax will have to offer value and quality to the consumer in order to survive long term is what analysts agree upon. According to IDC's Navkendar Singh, "For the consumer, it is about value, he sees the value and Chinese players have been giving the value. They (Micromax) have to match them (Chinese) in terms of product portfolio, in the specification versus price equation, in terms of investment, in marketing, retail marketing, online player distribution. If they’re not able to do that, they will just fizzle out."
Canalys' Rushabh Doshi told indianexpress.com, "Micromax now faces competition with big pockets, which has a lot of money to spend, especially when it comes to branding and advertising. They will have to be quick in rebuilding that brand presence." Read the full article here.
Micromax is expected to announce two new phones in the Indian market today. The devices will be in the budget segment likely priced under Rs 15,000. Micromax is promising a clean performance with stock Android, and a good performance for gamers. It also looks like the company's latest phone will have a 48MP camera setup at the back. Of course, 48MP cameras on budget phones have become quite common. Micromax's phones will be listed on Flipkart.
The price of the new Micromax devices could be between Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000. In this price range, you already have some good options, which is why the new smartphones are expected to offer reasonable specifications at competitive prices.
As Micromax makes a comeback in the Indian smartphone market, the brand is going to have a tough fight against the already established Chinese brands. It will be interesting to see how Micromax will take on popular brands like Xiaomi and Realme.
