Ghaziabad: A gunner attached with Rajya Sabha MP Anil Agrawal allegedly committed suicide in Kavi Nagar on Sunday.
Police said Gaurav Kumar (30) was staying in the servant quarters of the MP’s house. He was talking on the phone with a family member around 8.30pm on Sunday when he shot himself in the throat with his carbine, an officer said. Police has sent the body for autopsy and the report is awaited.
Gaurav, originally from Baghpat district, was a 2011-batch UP Police constable. “He was transferred to Ghaziabad this year and was attached as a gunner to the MP since March. He was sharing his quarters with Agrawal’s driver, Sanjay,” a police officer said.
Avnish Kumar, circle officer-2, said the incident took place around 8.30pm on Saturday. “Sanjay told police that Gaurav was talking to his family on the phone and was using earphones. So, Sanjay left the room. After a couple of minutes, he heard the sound of a gunshot. When he rushed inside, he found Gaurav lying in a pool of blood,” he said.
“Sanjay immediately informed the other domestic staff and the MP, who was also at home. Agrawal informed the police and in the meantime, the others took Gaurav to Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar. He died during treatment,” Avnish added.
