As it happened: ASX jumps 1.9% as RBA cuts rates, hits QE button

Summary

  • ASX200 finished 1.9% higher at 6066.4 after the RBA cut the official cash rate to 0.1% in a suite of measures to support job creation and the recovery of the Australian economy
  • Wall Street rebounded on election eve, clawing back some of last week's heavy losses. US futures were up by between 0.1% and 0.5% at 4pm AEDT
  • Webjet rose 8.7%, Pendal Group 7.7%, Beach Energy 7.5%, Oil Search 7.5% and Credit Corp 7% to be the biggest gainers on Tuesday 
  • The Aussie dollar hit a day-high of 70.63 US cents just after 1pm before sliding to 70.30 US cents by 4pm
