BENGALURU: The
Karnataka government has exempted solo occupants of four-wheelers with windows rolled up from wearing
masks.
However, masks are compulsory if more than one person is travelling in the
car. Those riding two-wheelers must wear masks even if they are no pillion
riders.
BBMP’s new order mum on mask use while exercising.
BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said on Monday that the department of health and family welfare department clarified that if the occupant of the car is alone (only driver), it is not mandatory to wear masks. The rider: Windows must be rolled up.
On Sunday, the technical advisory committee of the state discussed the issue and concluded that modification in BBMP norms was needed. Prasad had earlier said, “Covid is a viral
infection that is transmitted through respiratory droplets while coughing, sneezing and speaking. Widespread and proper use of appropriate facemasks in a community is known to prevent the spread.”
BBMP’s order is silent on the confusion over wearing masks while jogging or brisk walking on pavements and in parks and gyms. Experts had said while running or jogging masks can be lowered, but they should be worn if the person is joining a crowd or speaking to someone.
