UP bypolls: 41.03 pc voting till 1500 hrs

Lucknow, Nov 3(UNI) Around 41.03 per cent of the 24.34 lakh electorates exercised their franchise till 1500 hrs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly bypolls to seven seats on Tuesday.

The polling was undergoing smoothly and not reported any untoward incident so far, the officials claimed.

However, in Naugawan Sadat Assembly seat in Amroha, the BJP candidate had alleged that some people were rigging the polls and a complaint was made to the returning officer and the central observers.

The highest polling was recorded in Naugawan Sadat assembly seat where 44.20 per cent turnout recorded while the lowest was of 36.39 per cent in Ghatampur.

In Bangarmau seat the poll percentage till 1500 was 42.99 per cent, followed by Bulandshahr 40.30 per cent, Deoria 41.06 per cent, Tundla 40 per cent and Malhani 42.30 per cent.

Except for early EVM glitches in some booths, the polling was peaceful and smooth, officials here claimed.

The polling will continue till 1800 hours.
