Uber launches ExpressMatch at Kolkata Airport, the first international market outside of North America

Kolkata, Nov 3 (UNI) Uber today announced the launch of a new feature, ExpressMatch,
which will reduce wait times, ensure seamless rider pick-ups and also facilitate physical
distancing at Kolkata airport by pre-staging a small number of vehicles at dedicated
pickup points.
After pilots across airports in the United States and Canada, Kolkata airport is the
first in the world to implement Uber’s innovative ExpressMatch technology.
ExpressMatch alerts a subset of drivers to pre-stage their UberGo vehicles at
preassigned pickup zones, instead of waiting in remote parking areas, thereby
facilitating a trip as soon as the rider requests one.
Uber’s dynamic, intelligent dispatch tool sends drivers to the pickup points to wait
briefly before they receive a ride request, reducing rider wait time to almost zero,
improving overall rider experience and reducing congestion at the airport.
The feature also ensures efficient optimisation of time for drivers by reducing
idling at airport pickup zones.
Commenting on the initiative, Ratul Ghosh, Head of Rider Operations, Uber India
and South Asia, said,“ExpressMatch is our effort to offer riders a true Uber
experience by reducing wait times and enabling seamless pickups at airports,
creating peace of mind for customers during these challenging times."
"With drivers ready-to-go at the pickup zone, our results show that since piloting
ExpressMatch in September this year we have reduced pickup times significantly at
Kolkata airport. This means efficient optimisation of time, for both riders and drivers,”
Mr Ghosh said.
The health and safety of passengers remains top priority for Uber as the company
continues to launch innovative solutions to keep people moving during the ongoing
pandemic. Infact ExpressMatch has been designed to meet the needs of passengers
in the new normal.
By ensuring riders get access to vehicles already pre-staged at the waiting zone,
Uber hopes to reduce time spent by riders in lineups thereby facilitating social
distancing and also improve pickup times during the festive season and beyond.
