Greater Noida: As
Child PGI in Sector 30 ceased to be a Covid-19
hospital on Monday,
children affected by the virus will now be treated at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (
GIMS) and
Sharda Hospital — the L3 facilities, said officials.
This is because these are the only hospitals equipped with government paediatric ICU (PICU) and neonatal ICU (NICU) facilities.
While GIMS in Greater Noida currently has 10 Covid-19-affected children admitted, it has treated 116 children since the past seven months. Similarly, Sharda hospital has six children currently under treatment while it has treated 199 children with
Covid -19 since April.
“We began treating children referred from other districts as well as from GB Nagar from April this year. Now, we will be admitting children who test positive for the virus. Currently, we have 10 children undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at the hospital while we have treated 116 children overall till November 1,” said Brigadier (rtd) Dr RK Gupta director GIMS.
Gupta, also a paediatrician, leads the team of doctors in the paediatric ward and will deploy a dedicated team for children’s treatment.
“We are ready to admit children for Covid treatment as we have a fully functional PICU, operation theatre and sufficient oxygen supply. Also, we have adequate numbers of important medicines such as Remdesivir and Tocilizumab,” he added.
Sharda hospital has a paediatric department for children. A team of doctors and nurses especially trained in childcare will be deployed for Covid-19 treatment. “We run a 24x7 paediatric and neonatal emergency services with fully functional PICU and NICU. Thus, in addition to Covid patients, we are treating paediatric patients with serious illnesses especially infectious disorders which are prevalent at this time of the year,” said Dr (Brigadier) Ranjit Ghuliani, professor in paediatrics Sharda University School of Medical Sciences.
