UP: Karwa Chauth brightens markets amid flouting of COVID protocols

Lucknow, Nov 3 (UNI) Markets across the cities were seen buzzing with activity, as people flocked them to buy goods on the eve of Karwa Chauth, with COVID-19 related protocols being thrown to the air in maximum places in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
A festive spirit could be seen in the markets before Karva Chauth in most of the districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj and Basti.
Clothes and cosmetic shopkeepers were busy all day, while queues of women were seen at beauty parlours. The henna vendors were also spotted sitting on the pavements with their decorated shops, while women queued up to decorate their palms with 'mehendi.'
During this time, a large number of women and enthusiastic shoppers ignored the COVID protocol and were seen going about their chores, regardless of the threat of Novel Coronavirus.
The number of customers in Bhootnath market, Aminabad, Hazratganj and Nishatganj in Lucknow was many times more than the usual days. Saree and suit shops in the market were buzzing with customers, while customers were also spotted at jewellery shops.
A saree businessman in Hazratganj said the sale of designer sarees has registered an increase of up to 52 per cent in comparison to the previous month. For the last three days, there has been a sudden boom in business, which seems that the drought of months will go away in this festive season, he added.
Naseem, a cosmetics shopkeeper in Nishatganj, said the sale of bangles, bracelets, bindi, nail polish and lipstick were witnessing a tremendous jump. Women are showing great interest in buying cosmetics that match their outfit, he added.
