
2020 Bihar Election Phase-2: 44.49 per cent voter turnout has been recorded till 3 pm. Highest voter turnout is recorded in Muzaffarpur (50.96 per cent), followed by Khagaria district(50.05 per cent). The lowest voter turnout is recorded in Patna (39.65 per cent). Voting is currently underway for 94 constituencies in phase two of the assembly elections in Bihar. In the first phase of elections, 71 seats went to polls on October 28.
In the second and the most crucial phase, over 2.85 crore voters will decide the fate of nearly 1,500 candidates. Among the key faces in this phase are Tejashwi and Tej Pratap Yadav, sons of former chief minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Of the 1,463 candidates in the fray for the 94 seats, nearly 10 per cent or 146 are women. Among the 2.85 crore voters, females account for 1.35 crore. Maharajganj assembly constituency has the maximum number of 27 candidates while Darauli (04) has the lowest.
The RJD is contesting 56 of the 94 seats while its ally Congress is contesting 24. The CPI and CPI(M) are fighting four seats each. From the NDA side, the BJP candidates are in the fray in 46 of the seats, while another 43 are being contested by those with JDU tickets. Mukesh Sahni’s VIP is contesting the remaining five. The LJP is contesting 52 seats, including the two it had won in 2015 contesting as an NDA constituent.

Around 55.04 per cent of total 4.67 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 3 pm in by-elections to two assembly seats in Odisha. Balasore seat reported 54.85 per cent polling, while 55.23 per cent of voters in Titrol constituency in Jagatsinghpur district have cast their ballots. Voting, which commenced at 7 am, is in progress in a peaceful manner. Errors found in VVPAT machines during mock polling at some places were corrected. Polling will end at 6 pm. (PTI)
Bihar Elections 2020: Senior Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha today said critics of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav will be "khamoshed" (silenced) when results for Bihar assembly polls are declared on November 10 as the 'Mahagathbandhan' is headed for a "landslide" win. He also said personal attacks are being made against the grand alliance's chief ministerial candidate by the National Democratic Alliance leaders as they are "totally rattled" by Yadav's well-thought and researched promise of providing 10 lakh jobs to the youth of Bihar.
"The writing on the wall is absolutely clear, the youth brigade led by our very own, dynamic, most talked-about man of aspirations and expectations, Tejashwi Yadav, along with his young team, is going to form the government with a massive landslide victory of the RJD, the Congress and the Left parties. The success of the grand alliance in Bihar is inevitable because people want that. The kind of euphoria that has been generated by national youth icon Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, I would say -- seeing is believing," said the former Union minister. (PTI)

Gujarat bypolls: Two men were arrested with cash of over Rs 57,000 in Karjan taluka of Vadodara district, hours before the by-election for eight Assembly constituencies began in Gujarat. The police have claimed that the money was supplied by a Congress worker to influence voters ahead of polling. Karjan is one of the eight constituencies in the state where voting commenced at 7 am. 'We have arrested two persons with unaccounted cash of Rs 57,700. We suspect that it was meant to influence the election process,' inspector A A Desai of Karjan police said. (PTI)
Motihari, Bihar: An SSB jawan was killed after he was run over by an unidentified vehicle while on his way to attend election duty in Bihar's East Champaran district. The incident took place near Dumra Chowk in Kotwa police station area on Monday night when 34-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal jawan Shailesh Kumar Singh was going to a polling booth in Kalyanpur constituency in East Champaran district on his motorcycle. The jawan hailed from West Champaran district and was posted at the SSB's 65th battalion in Bettiah. The body was handed over to his family members after the conduct of the post-mortem examination. Congress and BJP supporters clashed at a polling booth in Madhya Pradesh even as voting was underway for by-elections in 28 Assembly seats of the state. One person was injured in the clash. A total of 26.86 per cent voters exercised their franchise till 12 pm. In Morena district, Congress and BJP supporters clashed at Jatavara polling booth and an unidentified person fired a bullet during the incident, Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania said. "A person was injured but it was not clear whether he received the injury due to the gun shot or was hit by a stick. It will be clear only after medical examination. The injured person was referred to the district hospital for treatment," the official said. (PTI)
UP bypolls: Over 30 per cent votes have been cast till 1 pm. Polling started at 7 am amid tight security arrangements and Covid guidelines in place. Till 11 am, just 18.49 per cent voters had exercised their franchise. The figure went up to 30.41 per cent by 1 pm. The voting percentages till 1 pm are 33 per cent in Bangarmau, 28.83 per cent in Bulandshahr, 31.85 per cent in Deoria, 24.50 per cent in Ghatampur, 28 per cent in Malhani, 35.70 per cent in Naugaon Sadat and 31 per cent in Tundla. Around 46.47 per cent of total 5.63 lakh voters cast their ballots till 1 pm in by-elections to two assembly seats in Jharkhand. Dumka seat reported 46.96 per cent turnout, while 46.07 per cent of voters cast their ballots in Bermo constituency of Bokaro district. Polling began at 7 am and no untoward incident has been reported so far. Electors were seen standing in queues in polling booths by maintaining social distancing. They were given masks, sanitiser and gloves. The fates of 12 candidates in Dumka and 16 in Bermo will be sealed in the EVMs by 5 pm.
Bypolls: Thousands of people battled corona fears and queued up outside polling booths across 10 states to vote in by-elections to 54 assembly constituencies, including 28 in Madhya Pradesh where the BJP is locked in a high-stakes contest with the Congress to save its government. Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, except in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Nagaland. The last hour has been reserved for voters who have tested positive for Covid. The votes will be counted on November 10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to vote in large numbers. 'Today, there are bypolls taking place in various places across India. I urge those voting in these seats to vote in large numbers and strengthen the festival of democracy,' he said in a tweet.
Bihar Election Phase-2: Nearly 33 per cent of the total 2.85 crore electors exercised their franchise till 1 pm. The highest poll percentage of 41.25 has been recorded in Muzaffarpur among the 17 districts, where the 94 seats are located. The lowest turnout so far has been reported from Darbhanga at 26.73 per cent, followed by Patna at 28 per cent. The estimated overall turnout at 1 pm is 32.82 per cent. Vaishali district's Raghopur, from where RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is contesting the elections in the second phase, has recorded 36.09 per cent votes in the first six hours.
