LUCKNOW: A team of Uttar Pradesh ATS arrested two persons for carrying fake Indian currency worth Rs 5.97 lakh from Bangladesh in Agra. The duo confessed to bringing the notes from Bangladesh and circulating them in UP and Delhi. The notes seized from their possession were of Rs 500 denomination.
A total of 1,194 notes of Rs 500, a Hyundai i10 car, six smartphones, an Aadhaar card, a driving license, a voter card and two debit cards were seized from the two.
ATS officials said that the accused, Tehseen Khan and Mohammed Wasim, were brought to Lucknow and have been booked under the charges of using counterfeit currency notes and possession of forged currency notes.
ATS said that Tehseen hails from Mahmdabad village in Gulabati police station area of Bulandshahr district and Wasim hails from Faizpur village in Nanpur police station area of Sitamari district in Bihar.
Wasim was currently living in house number 12-13 near Dwarka junction in Delhi’s Dwarka police station area.
Additional director general of police, UP ATS, DK Thakur told TOI that after interrogation the duo revealed that they were bringing the counterfeit currency from Malda (West Bengal). “We will probe the whole international channel and its supply chains,” said the ADG.
On December 11, 2019, UP ATS had arrested one Murad Alam from Ghaziabad who was found to be possession of Rs 2.5 lakh fake currency notes. Later, the case was transferred to the NIA.
