Mysuru: Only Rs 2.9 crore of Rs 10 crore outlay spent on Dasara this year

MYSURU: District minister ST Somashekhar on Sunday said the government spent Rs 2.9 crore for this year’s Dasara celebrations. The amount includes expenditure on hosting events at Mandya and Chamarajanagar.
The government had released Rs 10 crore for the festival this year. The remaining Rs 7 crore is in Mysuru deputy commissioner’s bank account.
The minister said Rs 50 lakh was spent for Dasara events at Mandya and Rs 36 lakh at Chamarajanagar.
Mysuru district administration spent Rs 2 crore for celebrations in the city; it spent Rs 44 lakh for cultural programmes; Rs 35 lakh towards maintenance of five Dasara elephants; Rs 16.9 lakh for Jumboo Savari, which was restricted to Mysuru Palace.
A sum of Rs 40 lakh was paid as honorarium to the royal family, the minister stated adding Rs 2.6 lakh was spent towards accommodation of VIPs and artistes.
Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) spent Rs 3.5 crore for special illumination of 52 km of roads, he stated, adding the illumination will not be extended beyond November 1.
