Ford's Ranger double cab bakkie is not only one of the most popular vehicles in South Africa, but also one of the most affordable in its segment when it comes to the total cost of service, repair, and replacement.

This is according to the 2020 AA-Kinsey Report that was released in the closing stages of October 2020.

In 2.0 Single Turbo double cab XLT guise, this is not the only feather in the Ranger's cap as, at 13.86%, it rated as the second-lowest figure in the entire 2020 Report in terms of parts basket as a percentage of the selling price. This percentage figure is across the entire spectrum of vehicles in each sector of the South African motor industry.

A popular segment

Neale Hill, MD of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa, said: "We are delighted that the Ford Ranger leads the extremely popular double cab segment in the total pricing of its service, repair and replacement parts. What is even more noteworthy is that the Ranger was an exceptionally close second overall across all segments of the industry when considering its parts basket relative to its purchase price."

Making this victory even sweeter for the Blue Oval is that the Ranger is a locally produced product and one of the top-selling vehicles in SA. It is also one of the leading export products, shipped to more than 100 global markets.

Other Ford vehicles that impressed in the 2020 AA-Kinsey Report are the Figo 1.5 Trend Hatch and Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Trend. At 29.23%, the Figo ranked second in its class in terms of lowest overall parts basket pricing relative to its purchase price. The Fiesta's scored the lowest parts basket as a percentage of the selling price at 29.9% - 4% clear of its nearest rival. Ford says that although the Fiesta was ranked third overall in the actual cost of parts, the price gap between first and third place was a mere R1209.82, indicating just how competitive the industry is.
