The Supreme Court has asked Centre to file status report in 6 weeks on proceedings pending in UK for the extradition of businessman Vijay Mallya to India. On October 5, Centre had told SC that Vijay Mallya cannot be extradited to India until a separate 'secret' legal process in UK, which is 'judicial and confidential in nature is resolved.' A bench of Justices UU Lalit and Ashok Bhushan asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to file status report in the matter in six weeks and posted it for hearing in the first week of January 2021. The bench also refused to accept the plea of advocate EC Agarwala, who has been appearing for Vijay Mallya in SC, seeking discharge from the case.
