Biennial UP legislative council polls for 11 seats to be held on Dec 1

Lucknow, Nov 2(UNI) After six months of delay due to Covid, Election Commission on Monday announced the election programme to elect 11 members of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council from the graduate and teachers constituencies with polling to be held on December 1 and results to be announced on December 3 .
These 11 seats fell vacant on May 6 after the end of the tenure of 5 graduate seat members and 6 teachers constituency members, but due to Covid, the EC did not conducted the polls.
According to the programme, the notification of 11 seats biennial elections would be issued on November 5 while November 12 will be the last date for filing of the nominations. Scrutiny of papers would be done on November 13 and last date for withdrawal is November 17.
Sources said that the polling would be held between 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs on December 1 and counting of votes would be done on December 3.
The seats where the biennial polls would be held are Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division,Meerut division and Allahabad- Jhansi division of the graduate constituencies and Lucknow division, Varanasi division, Agra division, Meerut division, Bareilly-Moradabad division and Gorakhpur-Faizabad division of the teachers constituencies.

Punjab CM orders expansion of Covid contact tracing to 15 persons

Chandigarh, Nov 2 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday ordered expanding the contact tracing of positive patients to 15 persons and made it mandatory for hospitals and radiology labs conducting CT scans to report such patients to the state administration in case of suspicion.
