Raju Shetty demands FRP plus 14 per cent hike on total FRP for per tonne sugarcane

Kolhapur, Nov 3 (UNI) Taking an aggressive stance against cooperative sugar millers and the state government, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) national president and former MP Raju Shetty on Monday demanded that the sugar millers should give a one-time FRP (fair remunerative price) without any cut, on top of 14 per cent hike on total FRP, on the lines of 14 per cent amount to be given to cane cutters and transport labourers for this year's crushing season.

Addressing 19th "Us Parishad" (sugarcane convention) virtually due to ongoing corona pandemic in Jaysingpur town of the district this evening in the presence of SSS office-bearers, he said the sugar millers should make one-time payment of first installment of FRP without any cut, just like 14 per cent hike announced in payment of cane cutters and transport labourers.
Also, the cane farmers should be given additional 14 per cent amount on total FRP (that is approximately about Rs 200), which can be paid to farmers at the end of crushing season, he said.
The SSS chief further said that he would not take FRP in two to three installments and warned if the farmers do not get a one-time payment of FRP, then they would not let to hold this year's crushing season.
"If the sugar millers failed to give first installment of FRP in one time, in addition to 14 per cent hike on total FRP amount at the end of crushing season, then SSS workers would not allow transportation of sugar and would extort the amount by selling the sugar," Mr Shetty warned.
He said the SSS workers would participate in a country-wide 'rasta roko' agitation on Nov 5 for pending demands of farmers.
In today's meet nine resolutions were passed, which included to register criminal cases against board of directors of those sugar mills who have yet to pay FRP for 2019-2020, to give Rs 25,000 (instead of Rs 10,000) per hectare to farmers for their crops damaged due to recent heavy rainfall, to provide electricity for agri pumps for 12 hours at Rs 1.16 per unit, to remit domestic electricity bills charged during lockdown, to allow export of sugar with subsidy of Rs 1,500 per quintal, to repeal three farm bills, to give first installment of FRP in one time without any cut and others.
