MP by-polls: Voting on Tuesday in 28 constituencies

Bhopal, Nov 2 (UNI) By-election voting is scheduled to be conducted from 0700-1800 hrs – while ensuring adherence to COVID-19-related precautionary guidelines in letter and spirit – on Tuesday in 28 Assembly constituencies of 19 districts within Madhya Pradesh.
In the words of Additional Chief Electoral Officer Arun Kumar Tomar, “Eighty-four companies of the Central Reserve Police Force are stationed at polling centres. Besides; 2,500 Special Armed Force personnel; 10,000 of the district police forces; 7,000 Home Guard and 10,000 special police officers have been requisitioned. Assistants and wheelchairs will be available for differently-able voters. The critical centres number 3,038 and 358 hamlets have been earmarked as vulnerable. A total 250 flying squads and 293 police checkpoints are part of the arrangements.”

By-polls are being witnessed in Jaura, Sumaoli, Morena, Dimani, Ambah, Mehgaon, Gohad, Gwalior, Gwalior East, Dabra, Bhander, Karera, Pohari, Bamori, Ashok Nagar, Mungaoli, Surkhi, Malhara, Anuppur, Sanchi (Scheduled Castes), Biaora, Agar, Hatpipliya, Mandhata, Nepanagar, Badnawar, Sanwer and Suwasra. Sixteen of these are within Gwalior and Chambal divisions. Twenty-five of the constituencies were rendered vacant owing to resignations of lawmakers while by-elections were necessitated in the remainder on account of demises. As many as 27 were under Congress control while the saffron banner flew only over Agar.
