Actor Kajal Aggarwal got married to her fiancé Gautam Kitchlu in Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai on October 30. As she announced her wedding, people started wondering about their love story – how they met, fall in love and when did they decide to get married. Now, Singham actor opened her heart out on the ‘emotional proposal’ and how they fell in love and what is their love story.
Speaking with Vogue, she shared some exclusive details about her wedding, husband Gautam Kitchlu, wedding preparation, pre-wedding functions and falling in love.
How Did She Meet Her Life Partner, Gautam Kitchlu?
The couple was first acquainted through mutual friends over a decade ago and they instantly hit it off. She said, “Gautam and I dated for about three years, and then we were friends for seven. We have progressed in every stage of being friends and been very important in each other’s lives.” The pandemic made them realised that they want to spend their life together. Kajal was quoted as saying, “We were used to meeting all the time. Whether it was a social party or an important professional endeavour, the other one would always show up. So, amidst the lockdown, when we didn’t see each other for a few weeks—at best, we would catch a glimpse behind a mask at a grocery store—we realised that we wanted to be together.”
The Proposal:
She said that he is not a filmy sort of a man and he is thankful for that as she had a lot of that in her films. She said, “Gautam is understated when it comes to romance. He’s not the filmy sort, and I am grateful for it because I have enough of that in my films. So, it wasn’t a proposal with all of the jazz, but it was an extremely heartfelt, emotional conversation between us. He was so authentic about his feelings and the way he expressed how he wanted to have a future with me; I couldn’t be more sure about spending my life with him!”
Radha Krishna Satsang:
Kajal stated that by began the wedding celebrations on an auspicious note with Radha Krishna satsang. “To start on an auspicious note, we had a Radha Krishna satsang in my house. The living room was transformed using red and pink flowers and foliage to make it look like Vrindavan garden.”
Mehendi Ceremony:
The star said, “I was pretty clear that I wanted to enjoy the main celebration when the others were getting henna applied. So, I got my mehandi applied a day prior with my girls around me.”

The Wedding:
Speaking about the rituals, she said, “My side of the family is typical Punjabi, and my husband is half-Punjabi, half-Kashmiri. We wanted to make it very special and tried to incorporate both sides of our rituals and culture.” During the ceremony, as an ode to the groom’s background was the pusht puja that’s done with flowers, whereas the saat pheras were a tipping to Aggarwal’s roots. The actor who has spent a significant amount of time in South India for work “almost feels like I belong there. So, I wanted to pay tribute by adopting this beautiful ritual that sees the bride and groom placing a beetle leaf laced with jiggery and fenugreek paste on each other’s foreheads.”
