London, November 1

The UK has crossed the grim milestone of 1 million Covid cases as it prepares for a second complete lockdown in an attempt to curb the rapid spread of infections.

UK PM Boris Johnson declared the latest stay-at-home rules for England, to take effect from Thursday and last until at least December 2, on Saturday evening.

A section of his Conservative Party criticised him for harsh measures and the Opposition Labour Party for acting late.

In Iran, the number of Covid cases increased by 7,719 to 6,20,491. — Agencies
