Covid patient dies; kin accuse hospital of medical negligence
Kirit Patel
City businessman was admitted to a private Covid hospital in Thaltej twice

The family of a man who succumbed to Covid-19 on Thursday night has accused a private designated Covid hospital of negligence, claiming that their relative was not given proper treatment. Meanwhile, a case of accidental death was registered in the matter.

As per case details, Kirit Patel (50), a businessman, had tested positive on October 7. The family took him to SVP Hospital, from where he was referred to SAL Hospital in Thaltej.

He was discharged on October 14 and advised home isolation. His son Kevin alleged that Kirit's health deteriorated at night and he was taken to SVP hospital on October 15. However, he was allegedly denied a referral the second time and was admitted to SAL on private quota.

Kevin alleged that the doctor had recommended plasma transfusion, after which one unit was administered, but the second was not done on time. He said he had to call the police for it. The family claimed Kirit had asked them to transfer him to another hospital and that the oxygen level on his Bi-pap was being changed by doctors multiple times. After his death, his family demanded post-mortem.

Sources at the hospital said the patient had been sent home as he was stable. The hospital has not issued an official statement and the medical director refused to comment.

PI VM Desai of Vastrapur police station said, "We filed an accidental death report. A postmortem was carried out at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on October 30.”
