CHENNAI: The health condition of Tamil Nadu agriculture minister R Doraikkannu is “extremely critical” despite being on maximal life support, said a medical bulletin issued on Saturday by Kauvery Hospital in Chennai where he is undergoing treatment.
The bulletin issued by hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj said the minister had suffered a significant deterioration in vital functions.
On October 25, the hospital said the minister, who tested positive for Covid-19, was on ECMO and ventilator support. He has multiple comorbidities. The CT scan showed the viral infection had invaded 90% of his lungs.
The 72-year-old minister was brought to Kauvery Hospital from Villupuram General Hospital in an advanced life support ambulance on October 13. He complained of breathlessness and uneasiness while he was travelling by road to Salem from Chennai to offer condolences to the CM whose mother, Thavusayammal, died in the early hours of October 13.
