JAIPUR: The police have arrested six bookies who were betting on the IPL matches. The accused were arrested with Rs 74,000 as well account diaries running into crore of rupees. Out of the six accused, four hail from West Bengal, one from Jaipur and one from Haryana. They are being questioned to get more details about their network.
“We received information that the bookies were running their betting operation at a farmhouse in Vishwakarma area. We constituted a team and raided the farmhouse where the accused were caught red handed while making bets on matches being played on October 29,” said Jaipur police commissioner Anand Srivastava.
The cops seized 58 mobile phones, four laptops, wifirouter and eight diaries from the accused which contained accounts of over Rs 15 crore.
The accused made fake media and police identities to avoid arrest. Cops claimed that they are expecting big names to come up during the interrogation of the arrested persons and international links cannot be ruled out.
Just a week back, six bookies at been arrested in Sez police station area in a raid conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Squad. With IPL matches underway in UAE, the Rajasthan police have been regularly arresting alleged bookies. In a major action against them earlier this month, the ATS had simultaneously raided five locations in three states and arrested seven bookies from Cyberabad in Telangana while the remaining from Jaipur. Usually, the accused were involved in betting in a layered manner. They keep noting down all the calls for bets. Most of the bets are passed on to the person sitting at a higher level for which they get a commission. There are a few websites on which they keep monitoring the rates of bets. The settlement is done through hawala transaction.
