Centre decides to pre-release of Rs 224.50 cr under SDRF to Telangana

Hyderabad, Oct 31 (UNI) The Union Government has decided to pre-release a sum of Rs 224.50 crore under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Telangana for rescue and rehabilitation activity in the flood-devastated city of Hyderabad and to support the farmers, who lost their crops due to heavy rains and consequent inundation across the state.

The fund under this provision has actually been meant for the release during February- March 2021. However, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy has taken the personal initiative in facilitating the early release of funds, a press release issued here said on Saturday.

Mr Reddy has held several discussions with officials concerned and sent a detailed report to the PMO, explaining the situation and impressing the imperative of early access to funds.

A team of the Union Government officials has already visited Hyderabad to take stock of the flood situation and assess the damage. The report of the team is awaited. Once the Report comes, the Centre will consider the allocations for a comprehensive flood-relief package for the entire state.

Mr Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the prompt response for early release of funds under the disaster management.

It may be recalled, recently the Union government has sanctioned Rs 202 crores for repair and maintenance of roads in Telangana and this sanction has come when the roads have been ravaged by the floods and heavy rains.

Expressing his gratitude to the Union Government, Mr Reddy reiterated his endeavour to ensure maximum possible support to the state of Telangana to meet immediate exigencies and realize long-term goals.
