“I would take classes with Anjana ma’am once a week. We got in touch through Born2Win and she would come in to give me classes. Music has helped me through tough times and entertaining people help them feel the same way. While I’ve not performed in sabhas or formal concerts, I’ve had a lot of informal concerts for my friends and family at Born2Win,” said Neena.

Some nine years ago, Neena began working as a social worker in the city for people with HIV/AIDs. She spent several years on the field, spreading awareness and working with the community.

“There’s a lot of stigma within the community. During the pandemic, the community needs to be careful because of the infectious nature of the disease,” she said.

Currently, due to the pandemic, Neena is between jobs and is staying with her mother in Thoraipakkam.

“It’s hard to get jobs at this time. Some people still differentiate us. I’m worried that there might be these stereotypes in the singing industry as well, but I’ve been working on my voice all this time. If I get my break, I’d love to sing for people and make them feel the same way I felt while listening to the songs of great singers like SPB,” she said.
