The James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery dies overnight in his sleep at the age of 90, while in the Bahamas. He had been unwell for quite some time due to age-related ailments. Now, the makers have shared that they are devastated by his death. Taking to Twitter, producers of James Bond Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli shared, “We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words.”

They added, “Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. He was the first actor to play James Bond on the big screen in Dr. No in 1962, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever. The name’s Bond… James Bond” — he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent. He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

The veteran actor appeared in seven films as 007, which included every film from Dr No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again, between 1962 and 1983. He went on to cement his career such as Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), The Name of the Rose (1986), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000).

He won an Oscar for his performance as an Irish cop in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables. He also won two BAFTA awards and three Golden Globes in his career.
