National Unity Day observed in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, Oct 31 (UNI) Along with the rest of the nation, National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta
Diwas), which commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was
observed in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.
Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra along with his wife Neelam Misra, staff and officials
participated in the function organised at Raj Bhavan here on the occasion. They paid
floral tributes to Sardar Patel, popularly known as ‘Iron Man of India’.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor urged upon the people of the state to continue
the endeavour to reinforce the spirit of unity and nationalism. He called upon them to
imbibe the ideals of Sardar Patel.
He said that following the nationalists higher wisdom, higher direction and higher
coordination, India will prosper. He cautioned against vested interest approach and
advised all to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his mission of ‘Ek Bharat
Shreshtha Bharat’.
One of the few, who witnessed the first Independence Day of the nation, the Governor
recalled the challenges of the people under ‘British rule’ and the nascent stage of the
country’s independence.
He also recalled the proactive initiatives of Sardar Patel in ensuring the joining of
Jammu & Kashmir and Hyderabad in the Indian Union.
The Governor said that many people contributed towards the Indian independence,
but the most genuine and bold contribution was made by Sardar Patel.
He also participated in ‘walk for unity’ along with the Raj Bhavan staff, officials and
ITBP personnel, while the patriotic song ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’ was played.
The Governor, later, administered to all present the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ pledge.
The Pledge was in the spirit of unification of the country which was made possible by
the vision and actions of Sardar Patel. The pledge made was of dedication to
preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also make contribution to
ensure internal security of the country.
Arunachal Pradesh Police also paid homage to the ‘Iron man of India’ on his 145th
birth anniversary. Unity Day parade was organised at PTC Banderdewa near here on
the occasion.
