Indian Coast Guard rescues 4 marooned fishermen from Lankan waters

Chennai, Oct 30 (UNI) In a coordinated operation the Indian Coast
Guard (ICG) have rescued four Tamil Nadu fishermen from Mandapam
at Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district, who were marooned after
their boat drifted to Sri Lankan waters due to a technical snag.
A defence release here said the ICG Station, Mandapam successfully
coordinated the rescue operation of four Tamil Nadu fishermen on
Thursday evening amidst rough seas.
An Indian Fishing Boat drifted into Sri Lankan waters due to technical
snag and all the four crew were marooned.
Upon receiving information, the ICG swiftly coordinated with the High
Commission of India, Colombo, Fisheries Department authorities and
established communication with the distressed crew and ascertained
their condition.
The ICG Station Mandapam communicated with the Naval Detachment
at Ramathapuram and effectively coordinated for timely assistance to the
marooned crew and successful towing of their boat to Indian waters and
ensured their safe return to home along with their equipments.
The four fishermen were natives of Mandapam. They were stranded and
adrift at sea, braving the vagaries of rough weather for two days.

Kakinada, Oct 30 (UNI) Seven members of a marriage party were killed on the spot and 15 others injured, of whom two critically, when the van in which they were returning after attending to a marriage at Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple turned turtle on the ghat road atop Thantikonda hill in Gokavaram mandal 45 kms from Rajahmundry in the early hours of Friday, police sources said.
