Panjab University fellows want term extended, approach Vice President

Chandigarh, October 29

More than 30 Senators or fellows of Panjab University have now written to Chancellor Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Vice-President (VP) of India, for extending the term of the current House, which will end on October 31.

After the postponement of elections twice in the past three months, the Syndics have tried their best to ensure elections or extension of the current House. They have approached the UT Administrator, Punjab Chief Minister, UT Adviser and now, the Chancellor in this regard.

In today’s letter, Senators said: “The current House’s term is to end on October 31 and the elections have already been cancelled twice. As per the PU Calendar, Senate and Syndicate are the supreme governing bodies of the university. Therefore, in the interest of the university and its stakeholders, you are requested to extend the term of the present Senate till the next one is elected as per the PU Calendar.” — TNS
