UP: ‘New power tariff hurting weavers’

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
LUCKNOW: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, highlighting plight of weavers in Varanasi.
Claiming that weavers were suffering after imposition of revised electricity tariff, she urged the government to restore the UPA-era scheme of charging weavers at a flat rate.
In the letter to the CM, Priyanka, who is also incharge of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh said, “It has come to my notice that weavers of Varanasi — globally acclaimed for their quality of work — are struggling to meet both ends. The ongoing corona pandemic and wrong policies of the government have hit their business badly.”
Stating that weavers have brought laurels to UP with their skills and the government must help them in this time of crisis, Priyanka reminded the CM of UPA government’s flat power tariff scheme.
