Liuetenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday approved Delhi government's proposal to allow public buses to ply with full seating capacity amidst surge in COVID-19 cases in the national capital.
Baijal has also approved inter-state bus services and the process to plan a standard operating procedure is in the works.
Officials have stated that the initiative to raise the number of passengers in DTC and Cluster buses was made in the DDMA meeting on October 23.
In that meeting, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot sought permission for full seating in the buses. The reasoning behind the move is to stop the long queues at the bus stops in the city as a result of reduced number of passengers allowed in buses.
Earlier in the month, the Delhi government allowed all weekly markets to remain open for the public to buy their daily essentials.
It is to be noted that only two markets were allowed to be opened per zone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Now all the weekly markets of Delhi will be opened. Till now only 2 markets per zone were allowed. The poor people will get a lot of relief from this," Kejriwal tweeted.
Meanwhile, all the government and private schools still remained closed in the national capital.
Delhi has 32,526 COVID-19 cases with 6450 deaths.
