Winter 2020-21 Forecast: Why will it get more colder this time, know what 'La Niña' and 'El Nino' have to do with it

This time La Nina will have an effect on the weather and winter can cause havoc. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director-general, Mrityunjay Mohapatra, La Nina will experience a severe cold this year. He said that if you look at the large-scale factor for the cold wave conditions, then the circumstances of La Nina and El Nino play a very important role in this. La Nina's weakening is likely to cause more cold this year than last year. La Nina is called a little girl in Spanish.

What is la nina and el nino

According to Dr. RK Singh, Meteorologist of Pantnagar University, due to weak La Nina, this time will be cold in winter, because it is suitable for cold winds. El Niño and La Niña have great influence in determining the weather trend.

La Niña is a marine process, in which the water in the sea begins to cool. Which also has an effect on winds and has an effect on temperature. These differences can cause major impacts on the world's weather and climate, including oceanographic events.

Whereas in El Niño the opposite happens. That is, the seawater is hot and due to its effect, the hot winds move and both have an effect on the monsoon.

According to meteorologists, the major reason behind this is the change in wind direction. Actually, El Niño and La Niña are part of the El Niño – Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle, and both work in contrast to climate phenomena. The ENSO cycle is a scientific term that describes temperature fluctuations between the ocean and the atmosphere in the east-central Equatorial Pacific. The east-central equatorial Pacific is called the region between South America and Australia near the equator.

Due to the dry season, the temperature of the day is one to three degrees above normal in October, after the last four to five years. The night temperature has been below one to two days. Weather scientists believe that this happens in three to four years.

Scientist Rohit Thapliyal of Meteorological Center Dehradun said that the minimum temperature can go down by two degrees within a week. There may also be light rain and snowfall in high altitude places in the mountain districts in three to four days. That is, the northern part of India can get colder than the common cold.
