Maruti Suzuki Ertiga BS6 Diesel Tour M Variant Spotted Testing In Harayana: Spy Pics & Details
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been spotted testing with a BS6 diesel engine in the country. The company had discontinued all its diesel power units across all models during the shift to BS6 emission norms.

Spy video from 91Wheels, showcase a Tour M commercial variant of the Ertiga MPV testing in Harayana. At the side of the MPV near to the wheel arch, the DDiS badging has been removed leaving behind the glue residue.

Additionally, the video also reveals the sound of the engine, which sounds like the 1.5-litre diesel engine. Adding to the speculation, Maruti Suzuki is already offering the BS6 petrol and CNG option in the market. There are no other engine options that are expected to feature on the Ertiga excepted the now discontinued Diesel engine.

The Ertiga MPV was offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produced a maximum of 94bhp and a peak torque of 225Nm. The engine came mated to a six-speed manual transmission unit. The same transmission unit is also noticed in the spy video on the test mule, adding to the speculations.
The 1.5-litre DDiS engine was developed in house by Maruti Suzuki. Apart from Ertiga, the DDiS 225 engine powered also powered the Ciaz sedan sold by the company in the Indian market.

Contrary to market prediction, the demand for BS6 diesel engine continues to grow strong forcing manufacturer to rethink their strategy. Maruti Suzuki earlier stated that they will consider reintroducing the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the BS6 avatar if the demand for diesel engine continues after the introduction of new stringent emission norms.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine makes a lot of sense for the brand in achieving BS6 compliance. This means the same engine can power a small hatchback, a premium hatchback, a compact-SUV and an MPV, albeit in a different state of tune.

It will help in easier implementation and reduce manufacturing costs as well. Most of all, it will provide another powertrain option for buyers in the segment, especially customers favouring diesel engine because of its longevity.

Thoughts About The Maruti Ertiga BS6 Diesel Tour M Variant Spotted Testing In Harayana
Maruti Suzuki's commercial Tour range of model are likely favouring the previous diesel engine offered by the company. As a result, the company might be working on resurrecting its larger 1.5-litre engine and make it BS6 complaint. This is expected to boost sales for the brand, especially in the commercial segment.
