Caboolture security guard dies in hospital after alleged serious assault
A 38-year-old security guard who was seriously assaulted at a Caboolture shopping centre earlier this month has died in hospital.
Queensland police confirmed the man, identified as Charles Lewis, died in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Tuesday night, almost three weeks after he was allegedly punched in the face.
A 30-year-old man, who was charged over the assault, remains in custody over the October 9 incident at the Caboolture Square shopping centre in King Street.
Police allege a male attacker threw a chair at a shop inside the centre near the Gloria Jean's cafe, breaking the chair and attracting Mr Lewis' attention.
When Mr Lewis' confronted the man, he was allegedly punched in the face, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the ground.
He was rushed to hospital but sadly has not survived his injuries.
The man charged over the incident will next appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 25.
