Miscreants assault, throw acid on man in trans-Ganga area

PRAYAGRAJ: A group of unidentified armed miscreants threw acid on a man after thrashing him brutally near Mansaita nullah road under the limits of Baharia police station in the trans-Ganga area late on Monday night. The victim, identified as Amit Kumar Yadav (25), is a resident of Jugnideeh and admitted at SRN hospital for treatment where his condition was stated to be critical.
SP (Trans Ganga) Dhawal Jaiswal told TOI that police have been probing the incident thoroughly. He added that the victim had suffered burn injuries on his neck and face portion and was admitted at SRN hospital for treatment. He also claimed that police have spoken to his family members to compile more details related to the incident.
Family members alleged that a group of unidentified miscreants made an abortive bid to kill Amit with the help of bricks and also sprinkled acid on his face and neck portion. The case came to fore on Tuesday morning when some villagers spotted the victim near Mansaita nullah road and informed the police.
The victim apart from working at a local electronics shop, was also working as a broker and dealing in the resale of vehicles. As per the family members, Amit had left the house on Monday evening to finalise a deal and had Rs 40,000 with him. When family members tried to contact him after 8pm on Monday, his mobile was switched off.
Upon being alerted, a team of senior police officials along with forensic experts, also rushed the spot and carried out investigations. The reason behind the attack was still not known, said the police.
