CHANDIGARH: Punjab BJP women’s wing will gherao chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s official residence in Chandigarh on Wednesday as a mark of protest against the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and poor power supply.
The demonstration, led by mahila morcha president Mona Jaiswal, will start from Shivalik View hotel in Sector 17 at 12 noon. Members of the Mahila Morcha said they want to highlight the miserable plight of women, both in terms of safety and security in the wake of repeated incidents of rape in Punjab, which reflect complete breakdown of law and order machinery in the state.
They said the rape and murder of a 6-year-old Dalit girl at a village in Hoshiarpur district and three similar incidents in the recent past shocked the state and raised questions on the safety of girls and women in the state. Mahila morcha demonstrators will also highlight the collapse of the power supply system in Punjab.
