SEC hold discussions with political parties to conduct Local Body poll in AP

SEC hold discussions with political parties to conduct Local Body poll in AP

Vijayawada, Oct 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday held a one-on-one discussions with political parties to elicit their opinion to conduct the Local Body Election.

The opposition parties, including the Telugu Desam Party urged the SEC to revoke the earlier proceedings to conduct the local body election and issue "fresh notification" in this regard.

It is learnt that the SEC informed the leaders that the Election commission is planning to conduct local body poll as the Coronavirus pandemic threat is getting diluted in the state.

In fact the local body poll had to be conducted during the last week of March but was postponed in view of the Coronavirus pandemic threat just a few days before the polling date.

Except the ruling YSRCP, all opposition parties attended the meeting and apprised their opinions to the SEC.

The SEC elicited opinions from the political parties in this regard.

Telugu Desam Party State President K Atchannaidu, CPI State Secretary K Ramakrishna, BJP leader P Satyanarayana, CPI-M leader Y Venkateswara Rao and BSP leaders Pushparaj attended the meeting and told their opinions to the SEC on conducting the local body election.

Later talking to media, Mr Atchannaidu said that the TDP told the SEC that it is ready for the election and urged Mr Kumar to revoke the earlier proceedings which were taken up to conduct the local body poll and issue a fresh notification in this regard.

He said that the TDP also asked the SEC to nullify the unanimous elections of ZPTCs and MPTCs.

The TDP leader questioned the ruling YSRCP why they were hesitating for holding local body poll.

He alleged that with the fear of defeat, the ruling YSRCP did not attend the meeting convened by the SEC today.

Mr Rama Krishna said the ruling YSRCP claimed that 189 MPTCs and 120 ZPTCs, belonging to the party were elected unanimously.

The CPI leader demanded the SEC to revoke all the unanimous elections.

He said that he had suggested to the SEC that it should take the advice of medical experts to conduct the election as the Coronavirus pandemic is still prevalent in the state.

Mr Satyanarayana said that they urged the SEC to revoke the earlier notification and issue a fresh notification to conduct the local body poll and nullify all the unanimous election.

CPI-M leader suggested the SEC that it should consult the state government before issuing notification for pollas the Coronavirus is still rampant.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister K Kannababu told the media that SEC discussed the matter of conducting the local body poll neither with the Chief Secretary nor apprised the same to the Chief Minister.

“The SEC postponed the local body election, to be conducted during the last week of March, when only 10 Coronavirus positive cases were being registered in the state and wanted to conduct the election when over 2000 positive cases are being reported every day”, Mr Kannababu pointed out.
