Assam: Police arrest doctor, son for cheating in JEE (mains) exam

GUWAHATI: Assam Police on Wednesday arrested a doctor and his son for allegedly using a proxy candidate to write JEE (mains) examination held in September instead, in which the son achieved the top rank among candidates from Assam with a score of 99.8 percentile without sitting for the exam.
Three other persons have also been arrested in this connection and all five have been charged with cheating by personation, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy, a police statement said.
Police started the investigation following an FIR lodged by one Mitradev Sharma of Mathura Nagar, Dispur.
“The candidate came out of the examination hall after biometric attendance with the help of an invigilator and in his place, someone else appeared for the examination,” the FIR read.
According to the FIR, an educational institution helped the candidate in the entire process.
“The candidate’s father has paid a huge sum of money approximately Rs 15-20 lakh for this purpose," the complainant alleged in his FIR.
