CM to launch two air quality monitoring systems in Trichy

TRICHY: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will inaugurate on Wednesday air quality monitoring systems at Chatram bus stand and on Bharathidasan University campus in Trichy through video conferencing.
The facilities that were installed at a total cost of Rs 4.5 crore will display for benefit of the public real-time information on particulates (PM 2.5, 10) and other pollutants like sulphur dioxide, ammonia, carbon monoxide.
The facilities will sensitise the public on the quality of air they are breathing, said S Senthil Kumar, dean, school of life sciences, St Joseph's college. He said students would have access to the ambient air quality data for their research.
Former chief minister J Jayalalitha announced in 2015 that continuous air quality monitoring systems would be installed at 25 education institutions.
