Hibberdene police are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a foetus was dug out of a shallow grave in Umzumbe.

According to the police, the K9 unit was used in an area pointed out by an eyewitness.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said after a positive reaction, the area was carefully dug up and a foetus was found wrapped in a linen saver, in a shallow grave.

"The foetus was placed in a small body bag and handed over to forensic pathology services on scene", Gwala added.

No arrests have been made.
