BHUBANESWAR: Saumya Mishra, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, has sought change of her cadre from Odisha to Punjab on marriage grounds.
All India service rules allow married IAS and IPS officers to get a common cadre state, which should not be the home state of either of the spouses. Saumya’s husband Deepak Pareek, an IPS officer of Punjab cadre, is posted as additional DCP-1 at Ludhiana. While Saumya belonged to Uttar Pradesh, her husband hailed from Rajasthan. The couple, whose marriage was solemnized on November 22, 2015, are 2014 batch officers.
“I had earlier requested on November 24, 2015 for change of my cadre from Odisha to Punjab on ground of marriage. Now, it has been almost five years since our marriage on November 22, 2015. I request you to kindly consider my request for the cadre change,” Saumya wrote to director general of police Abhay through the commissioner of police Sudhanshu Sarangi a few days ago. After receiving her application, Sarangi on October 21 this year drew the attention of the DGP to her request.
“According to the procedure, the DGP will send her application to the state home department for consideration. The state government, if approves her cadre change, will subsequently forward her representation to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) for her cadre change. The state government takes a decision on such matters after examining the availability and vacancies of the IPS officers. Decision of Punjab government also matters,” a senior police officer said.
