Khammam: A degree student was among two thieves police arrested here on Tuesday in connection with seven theft cases that took place under Khanapuram and three town police station limits.
The ACP (Khammam town), Anjaneyulu told press persons that the accused were a B Com second year student, Amaraneni Vamshi of Srinagar Colony in Khammam and a hotel worker Kala Manikanta of Vijayawada in AP.
They were taken into custody while trying to sell the stolen jewellery to traders at Gandhi Chowk area in the city. During questioning they revealed their identity and confessed to their crimes. The police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 12. 66 lakh from them.
Material like hair dryer, binocular and others worth Rs 40, 000 along with a two wheeler were also seized from them. Three town CI, Ch Sridhar, SI, K Srikanth and others were present.
ATM fraudster arrested in Kothagudem
At Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem, police arrested a youth who was cheating gullible persons in the guise of helping them to withdraw cash from ATM machines. The accused was identified as Banala Prashanth of Gandhi Nagar, Bhupalpalli district.
CI T Swamy told press persons that the accused was involved in as many as 11 cases and withdrew an amount of Rs 3.36 lakh cash using ATM cards of his victims in Khammam. He also committed 14 crimes in other districts. Rs 1.5 lakh cash and a two wheeler was seized from him.
