If the agencies responsible for tests are found at fault, they will be blacklisted

The higher and technical education minister of Maharashtra, Uday Samant, has said that the companies hired for online examination could be blacklisted if found guilty of technical violations. His statement followed after Shivaji University (Kolhapur), Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and University of Mumbai complained about various technical problems encountered during the tests.

To iron out the glitches, the higher education and technical department has formed a fact-finding committee to analyse the examinations conducted at each university and to verify if the companies are at fault.

In the meanwhile, the glitches have not gone down too well with the students. Many campus associations are pressing for action against the firms that conduct online examinations.

We have asked each university to keep the report on exams ready by November 10, and also present it in the management council meeting. They will be studied by the panel

Samant confirmed to having received students' grievances. "In a meeting with vice-chancellors, it was decided that the companies which conducted the examinations if found guilty, will be blacklisted. Thereafter, they will not be given any university-related work," he clarified.

He also attested to the formation of a specialised panel, comprising experts to evaluate the situation. "There will also be representatives from universities' examination department officials and vice-chancellors. We have asked each university to keep the report on examinations ready by November 10, and also present it in the management council meeting. They will be studied by the panel," Samant added.

Once the fact-finding committee formulates its observations, they will be presented to the governor, following which further course of action will be discussed.

Maharashtra Students Welfare Association has also written to SPPU, complaining about the technical errors faced by students during the examination. They called for action against agencies hosting the tests.

Mahesh Kakade, director of the examination department, SPPU, said, "First the report will be presented at the management council after which, the fact-finding committee will study the same."
