
Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune Coronavirus News Live Updates: At least 105 drivers and conductors of the MSRTC’s Sangli division, who were deployed in BEST buses in Mumbai earlier this month, have tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Sangli, an official said on Tuesday. “Out of these 400 staff members, 105 drivers and conductors have tested positive for COVID-19 so far. All these employees underwent the antigen test after they returned to the division on October 25,” the official from the MSRTC’s Sangli division said.
The Maharashtra government has brought down the rate for COVID-19 tests conducted at private laboratories by Rs 200, state health minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday. Tope, in a statement, said the new rates will be Rs 900, Rs 1400 and Rs 1800 per test, adding it was the fourth time rates had been revised from the original Rs 4,500.

The official said with 9,905 more patients discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the number of recoveries increased to 14,70,660.
The COVID-19 tally in Thane has reached 2,07,591 with the addition of 554 new cases while the number of deaths has gone up to 5,240 with 17 more fatalities in the Maharashtra district, officials said on Tuesday. As the number of new COVID-19 cases has come down, the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) has closed 31 out of the total 33 COVID-19 treatment facilities in the civic limits, they said. As of now, there are 10,737 active COVID-19 cases in Thane district, while 1,91,614 patients have recovered.

Leader of Opposition and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis continues to remain admitted in St George’s hospital for Covid-19 treatment. Doctors from the hospital said Fadnavis had fever for a week before he got hospitalised. On October 24, he had high grade fever. After a Covid-19 test came positive, he sought admission in a government facility and St George’s was recommended by state officials. On Monday, doctors from the hospital said Fadnavis is stable and his fever has subsided. “We plan to keep him under observation here for at least seven days. After that a seven-day home quarantine will be advised,” a doctor said.
He has been housed in a separate section at the nursing home in the hospital premises. The BJP leader was in Bihar overseeing campaign preparations when he fell ill. He had continued to work despite fever for few days.

"While Rs 900 will be the cost that can be levied by pathological laboratories, charges for tests conducted through laboratories at COVID-19 centres, hospitals and quarantine centres will be Rs 1400. New coronavirus infections reported in India in a span of 24 hours dropped below 50,000 for the second time this month, while the new fatalities registered during the same period fell under 500 after 108 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday. India's COVID-19 caseload mounted to 79,09,959.
The 480 new fatalities include 112 from Maharashtra, 60 from West Bengal, 33 from Delhi, 32 from Karnataka, 31 from Tamil Nadu, and 28 from Uttar Pradesh. A total of 1,19,014 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 43,264 from Maharashtra followed by 10,924 from Tamil Nadu, 10,905 from Karnataka, 6,882 from Uttar Pradesh, 6,587 from Andhra Pradesh, 6,487 from West Bengal, 6,258 from Delhi, 4,117 from Punjab, and 3,686 from Gujarat. The COVID-19 caseload in Thane mounted to 2,07,037 with the addition of 732 new cases in the Maharashtra district, an official said on Monday. The district also reported 10 deaths due to the viral infection on Sunday, taking the toll to 5,223, he said. Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the district, Kalyan has so far reported the maximum number at 49,181, followed by Thane city-45,411, Navi Mumbai-43,623 and Mira Bhayander- 22,049, the official said. Among the total fatalities, Thane city has so far reported 1,130 deaths, Kalyan-993, Navi Mumbai-875 and Mira Bhayander-698, he said.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has tested positive for Covid-19, a statement issued by his office said. He checked into Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on the advice of doctors. The deputy chief minister said, ” My health is fine. After a little rest will be back to my work.” Last week, Pawar cancelled his meeting with NCP workers at the party office.
Earlier this month, Pawar was among senior party leaders who visited flood affected parts of western Maharashtra to supervise relief and rescue work. In Solapur district, he announced that farmers hit by the crisis will be compensated. “No farmer will be left out,” he said, while directing revenue authorities to complete the work of damage assessment on an urgent basis.
Amravati district in Maharashtra reported 57 new coronavirus positive cases, which took its tally to 15,957, officials said. No death due to the infection was reported during the day, the district civil surgeon office said. A total of 66 patients were discharged, which took the recovery count in the district to 14,674, it added. With this, the recovery rate has gone up to 91.96 per cent, it said.
THE MAHARASHTRA government, which is providing Rs 50 lakh compensation to the families of police personnel who died due to Covid-19, has till October 21 approved payout of over Rs 103 crore to 205 families. As per details obtained from the Home department, they received applications from 223 families, out of which 205 applications were approved for payout, five were rejected while 14 have been forwarded to the health department to get clarity on the cause of death. Of the 223 claims, while 80 were made by the Mumbai Police, the rest was from other parts of the state. Read more here
The number of coronavirus positive patients in Maharashtra reached 16,45,020 on Sunday with the addition of 6,059 cases, the state health department said. As the virus claimed 112 more lives in the state, the death toll grew to 43,264, it said. A total of 5,648 patients were discharged during the day, which took the recovery count to 14,60,755, the department said in a release.
