Egypt extends emergency for three months

Cairo, Oct 26 (UNI) Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday issued a decree renewing the nationwide state of emergency by another three months.
The state-run Ahram newspaper quoted the decree saying "The armed forces and the police will take necessary measures to fight terrorism and its finance, maintain security nationwide, protect public and private properties and preserve citizens' lives,".
Egypt constitution requires that the President's decree to renew the state of emergency needs to be approved by the parliament.
President Al Sisi first imposed a three-month nationwide emergency in April 2017, during the aftermath of bomb attacks on two churches in the provinces of Gharbiya and Alexandria. Nationwide emergency has been constantly renewed since then.
Egypt has been witnessing waves of terror attacks that have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers since the ouster of president Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
