Every UP district to have Anti-Human Trafficking police stations

Lucknow, Oct 26 (UNI) Taking a big step against the trafficking of women and children, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to establish Anti-Human Trafficking police stations in every district.
Official sources on Monday said that the state government is going to give many important rights to these police stations for initiating action. These Anti-Human Trafficking police stations will now register FIRs directly and investigate the cases themselves.
As per sources, 40 new anti-human trafficking units will be set up in the state, which will act as police stations in the districts and register FIRs for criminal cases as part of the exercise to curb the trafficking of women and children, child labor and body trade. They will also investigate these cases.
In 2016, Anti-Human Trafficking Units had been given the status of police stations for the prevention of human trafficking in 23 districts of the state. These districts included Muzaffarnagar, Kushinagar, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Balrampur, Badaun, Siddharthnagar, Unnao, Hardoi, Shravasti, Mau, Kanpur Nagar, Gorakhpur, Bijnore, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Firozabad, Pilibhit, Sitapur, Ballia, Baghpat Nagar and Shahjahanpur.
Until now, anti-trafficking units used to register an FIR for any action at the Cantt police station. After registration of the case, the police from the outpost used to investigate.
Although now some cases were being transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Units, the Anti Human Trafficking police stations will now themselves take all the decisions. On Oct 20 last, a mandate in this regard was also issued by Additional Chief Secretary Avneesh Awasthi.
Earlier, the state had police stations of the Anti-Human Trafficking units in only 35 districts. These police stations had been established in 2011 and 2016. The new ones are being established following the Centre's Women Safety Division directions. Funds have also been allocated by the central government for this.
